Here is an interesting photo, it show the old bridge from the car park to the Castle and two poachers, Arthur Smith is one and the other I believe is his son. These were well know poachers in the 1960's and sent this photo to Guy Hart Dyke as a two fingered gesture.

 

The bridge was washed away by a heavy flood in the late sixties and bits of the old bridge can still be seen in river. Apparently the water built up pressure on the bridge then there was a loud explosion and the bridge was washed away.It must have been a hell of a flood as to this day Guy has a mark showing the water level on the wall of the Castle about three feet high.
